Michael James Platt is the co-founder and managing partner of BlueCrest Capital Management, a systematic and discretionary trading firm. BlueCrest was formerly one of Europe's largest hedge funds before converting to a family office in 2015.
Platt grew up in Preston, England, studied mathematics and economics at the London School of Economics, and began his career at JP Morgan, where he became the bank's top proprietary trader. He co-founded Brevan Howard in 2002 with Alan Howard before departing to found BlueCrest in 2000.
BlueCrest managed over $37 billion at its peak before Platt returned all outside capital in 2015, converting to a family office. The firm now manages approximately $10 billion of partners' money. Platt is known for his systematic approach to managing risk and his demanding management style. His net worth is estimated at approximately $9.4 billion.
