Data Sources & Verification Hierarchy
Global Trader Rankings draws from primary-source records only. Self-reported screenshots, testimonials, and marketing-page returns are not accepted for inclusion. Data sources are tiered by independence and audit rigour.
Tier 1 — Championship Audited (Real-Money Competition)
Real-money trading competitions where account performance is audited by an independent broker. The strongest verification standard.
World Trading Championships (WCTC, worldcupchampionships.com). Multi-division annual real-money competition. Robbins-audited brokerage statements. Used for: Ivan Scherman (2023 Futures), Brent Carlile (2024 Futures), Jaime Passy (2023 / 2024 Futures), Patrick Nill (2023–2025 multi-division), Pau Perdices Bellet (2025 Futures, +600.9%), Darren O'Neill (2025 multi-division: 168% / 65.9% / 59.35%), and others.
US Investing Championship. Annual real-money equity competition. Used for: Mark Minervini, Oliver Kell, and other championship-grade equity traders.
Tier 2 — Fund / Institution Audited
Independent third-party fund-performance auditing of pooled vehicles.
BarclayHedge Index. Hedge-fund-database tracked monthly NAV. Used for institutional macro, futures, and forex managers.
HFR (Hedge Fund Research). Hedge-fund index publisher; tracked NAV and performance attribution.
SEC filings (Form 13F, ADV). US-registered investment adviser disclosures. Used for: hedge-fund AUM, position-level holdings, fee structure.
UK FCA, EU equivalents. Equivalent regulatory disclosure standards in non-US jurisdictions.
Tier 3 — Platform-Tracked / Broker-Linked
Live broker-account performance feeds via independent tracking platforms. Less robust than Tier 1 (can be subject to gaming via demo accounts or selective broker-of-record routing) but materially stronger than self-reported.
Myfxbook, MQL5. Forex-focused platforms with live broker-account verification.
Tier 4 — Public Disclosure (Below Bar)
Self-published broker statements, on-air live trades, and trade-log disclosures. Not used as standalone verification but considered as supplementary context where a Tier 1–3 source is also present.
Tier 5 — Self-Reported (Excluded)
Screenshots, testimonials, and marketing-page returns. Not accepted for inclusion in our ranking under any circumstances.
How sources are recorded
Each ranked trader's profile page lists the specific verification source backing their performance data. Where multiple sources exist, the strongest tier is referenced. Conflicting sources trigger Editorial Board review before publication.
Cross-referenced ecosystem credentialing
For championship-grade traders, we cross-reference Trading World Champion, which maintains the credentialing record for annual title-holders since 2012. This is editorial cross-reference only; Trading World Champion is not a primary verification source per our methodology.
Update cadence
Source data is refreshed quarterly when material new disclosures are released. Material exceptions (e.g. mid-quarter championship season closures, regulatory filing windows) trigger interim updates noted in the CHANGELOG.
