Charles Payson "Chase" Coleman III is the founder of Tiger Global Management, a technology-focused hedge fund and venture capital firm. Tiger Global has been one of the most prolific technology investors of the past two decades, with early investments in Facebook, LinkedIn, JD.com, and hundreds of other tech companies.
Coleman grew up in a wealthy Long Island family, graduated from Williams College, and joined Tiger Management under Julian Robertson at age 23 β becoming one of the youngest Tiger Cubs. He founded Tiger Global in 2001 at age 25.
Tiger Global's public equity fund generated exceptional returns for many years but suffered a devastating -56% loss in 2022 as technology stocks collapsed. The fund has been in recovery mode since, returning to profitability in 2023-2025. Tiger Global's venture capital arm invested in over 300 companies and was one of the most active late-stage tech investors during the 2020-2021 boom. Coleman's net worth is estimated at approximately $4 billion.
