Stanley Freeman Druckenmiller is the founder of Duquesne Capital Management and widely regarded as one of the greatest macro traders of all time. Over a 30-year career managing outside capital, he never posted a single losing year β a feat virtually unmatched in the hedge fund industry.
Druckenmiller studied economics at Bowdoin College and began his career at Pittsburgh National Bank before founding Duquesne Capital in 1981. From 1988 to 2000, he also served as lead portfolio manager for George Soros's Quantum Fund, where he famously orchestrated the 1992 bet against the British pound β "breaking the Bank of England" β that netted over $1 billion in profit.
Duquesne Capital generated average annual returns of approximately 30% from 1986 until Druckenmiller closed the fund to outside investors in 2010, citing the stress of managing other people's money. He now manages approximately $30 billion through the Duquesne Family Office. His net worth is estimated at $9.9 billion. He is known for his top-down macro approach and his ability to make massive concentrated bets when conviction is high.
